Dr. Michael Ghusn

MBBS, FRACS

Dr Michael Ghusn is consultant specialist surgeon working in the Tweed and Gold Coast Region since 2003. Born and raised in Mackay in North Queensland, Dr Ghusn attended the University of Queensland where he gained his medical degree.

Dr Ghusn completed his internship at the (old) Gold Coast Hospital in 1993. He returned to Brisbane for surgical training based at the Royal Brisbane Hospital and rotated through many hospitals in Brisbane and regional Queensland.

At the completion of his surgical training, Dr Ghusn travelled to the UK along with his wife (Danielle and eldest child), spending 2 years gaining further surgical experience in General and Upper GI surgery. Dr Ghusn returned to Brisbane in 2003 for further post fellowship experience before accepting a VMO position at the Tweed Hospital and setting up a private practice at the Southern Gold Coast in August 2003.

Specialization

My practice is now predominately Upper GI surgery and Abdominal wall surgery

This includes Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy and bile duct exploration, Laparoscopic Distal Pancreatectomy, Laparoscopic Hiatal hernia repair and fundoplication, laparoscopic splenectomy and laparoscopic gastric resection.

I have considerable experience with management of Upper GI malignancies.

I have also developed a special interest in minimally invasive management of Gastro-Intestinal Stromal Tumours.

I have extensive experience in Laparoscopic Hernia Repair and complex abdominal wall repair.

I have also completed my robotic training for general surgery and regularly utilise this platform for inguinal hernia and abdominal wall hernia surgery.

I have contributed to several research articles in the field of hernia surgery and upper GI surgery.
